Anima mundi
wall mounted form of glazed ceramic tiles over a steel beam frame and clay soiled plastic, 2' x 6’x 4’, 2019.
An inquiry into the nature-built environment relationship in times of ecological distress, this piece explores empathy as a pathway for active responsibility. Overlapping self and world crises through a shared lens of urgency, self-inquiry identifies the wounded and forsaken parts of the self on the shores of trauma - to reintegrate them into the psyche. Thus, the process of collecting, folding and keeping the clay soiled plastic awakes an empathetic response towards the used, broken and the discarded in our environment.
